The Oyster King
June 22, 2013
Franklin County’s own James Hargrove has written a diverting novel about William Lee Popham, the real-life Kentucky evangelist and author turned real estate dynamo and convicted felon who owned St. George Island outright in the years after World War I. This is great beach reading for anyone who still regrets not snapping up that little beachfront lot fifty years ago. Read more about it in this week’s Apalachicola Times, and meet James at our reading table this Saturday.
Jeff Klinkenberg returns to his brier patch October 18, 2013
Tamara Suarez’s Cafe con Leche and Downtown Books will host a fabulous evening with favorite author Jeff Klinkenberg on Friday, October 18. A native Floridian and long-time Tampa Bay Times writer, Jeff has several fine collections of stories about “The Real Florida” under his belt. His latest, Alligators in B-Flat, chronicles his investigation into whether a bull gator really will bellow back at a tuba player hitting a certain note (he will), but also profiles a Sopchoppy worm-grunting family, the folks at the Indian Pass Raw Bar, Tommy Ward and the 13 Mile Seafood and Trucking Company, and Cafe con Leche’s own Frederic Kahler. Mark your calendar now and watch this space for updates!
